Do You Know These 3 Levels of Listening?
I’m teaching a three-week Counseling Skills for Couples. I’m so passionate about teaching counseling skills and been waiting to run for a long time because I truly believe it is a life skill each of us should have.
Many years ago (close to 20 years ago), my counseling teacher explained real listening wasn’t just about listening to words or to understand verbally.
There are actually three levels of listening:
1) Facts (hear, words expressed)
2) Feelings/ emotions (see, feel, sense)
3) Beyond (what is not spoken, more on intuition)
I was intrigued, and of course wanted to be a third level listener. In all honesty, I couldn’t get to this third level even after all the training I went through. But I kept trying to by listening with my whole being repeatedly.
Two years into my practice, it all came together and clicked. You can too… It’s about intention and practice.
